Talking about money is uncomfortable. For many younger investors, financial advice often feels either overly technical or condescending. On social media, that tension is amplified.

Betterment’s Dollar-splaining series addressed this cultural friction head-on with a simple, absurd premise: a literal dollar bill explaining how money works.

Our role was to translate that concept into a scalable social-first execution system built for modern feeds.

The work embraced humor as a strategic tool. The dollar character delivered confident, bite-sized lessons that addressed common financial misconceptions while keeping the tone light and approachable. By leaning into the absurdity of a dollar lecturing viewers, the series disarmed anxiety around investing and made financial education feel accessible rather than intimidating.

Execution was tailored specifically for social platforms. Fast pacing, vertical-first composition, and sharp editing ensured the videos could capture attention immediately while delivering clear takeaways in seconds.

Motion graphics and on-screen text reinforced key ideas without overwhelming the viewer, allowing the character’s voice and personality to lead the experience.

Across multiple executions, the recurring persona created familiarity and recall while maintaining flexibility for different financial topics.

What made the work effective was its balance. The humor entertained, but the information remained useful and credible.

In a category often defined by jargon and intimidation, Dollar-splaining turned financial education into something people actually wanted to watch, share, and engage with on social.
