Whataburger’s Museum of Art (WMOA) transformed a fan-led Instagram archive into a real-world museum at SXSW 2025 in Austin, TX. Built entirely from fan-created artwork, the experience celebrated 75 years of brand fandom by elevating creativity over conventional advertising. Instead of promoting products, Whataburger gave its community a physical space to see, share, and create art inspired by the brand they love.
The exhibit paid homage to 75 years of Whataburger by celebrating the passion of its fans.Fan-created artwork filled the space, spanning sculptures, murals, digital pieces, and 3D installations, showcasing the many ways fans express their love for Whataburger. Interactive moments brought that creativity to life. In the Day Dot Room, a blank restaurant interior became a collaborative canvas covered in colorful dot stickers. At the Table Tent Mugshot Wall, fans posed for playful portraits and took home limited-edition 75th anniversary table tents, honoring a long-standing fan tradition of collecting table tents from Whataburger restaurants over the years. Together, the artwork and hands-on experiences reflected the depth and diversity of Whataburger fandom.
