As part of the launch of the new web-based Fortnite Item Shop, Five by Five set out to alert fans that there was another way to purchase the latest in-game gear. We created a Fortnite Item Shop widget and lower-thirds banners into the Fortnite Global Championship livestream events platform. The Fortnite Item Shop widget showcased all of the available items equipped by the livestream competitors, while the lower-thirds banners focused on the most popular items at the time of the broadcast.


Fortnite Items sold in-game are now available for purchase via their new web-based Item Shop. The challenge for Epic Games is that this option is often overlooked by players due to years of only being able to purchase items within the game itself. We were tasked with boosting the new Web Item Shop's awareness and increasing traffic to the shop for purchases outside of the game.


Our goal was to reach players outside of Fortnite's in-game ecosystem and present them with a new way to shop for Fortnite items. We know that players are primed to purchase items (like skins, weapons, music and emotes) when they are watching other streamers play the game. Designing ads that featured the same items that competitive streamers were using in the event, and displaying the ads so viewers could click directly to the shop to purchase proved to be extremely effective. The creative itself replicated the in-game feel so that clicking to purchase felt natural to users.
