To surprise and delight our clients during the holiday season, we created an Oprah's Book Club-worthy cookbook featuring inspired eats and heartwarming stories from everyone on staff.
The only problem? We work in advertising. We refuse to be confined to a recipe. There’s no room for revisions. And our hands are so very fragile.
Turns out these are the perfect ingredients for a gold ADDY.
The challenge:
Create an untrashable holiday gift for clients, consultants, and press contacts that's uniquely Curiosity.
The objectives:
Strengthen client relationships, stay top of mind for consultants, and get at least one press write-up. Oh, and celebrate the $h!t out of our culture.
The solution:
We put ourselves on the page by curating a real-ass cookbook featuring recipes from everyone at the company. To ensure Questionable Taste gave our readers all the feels – and all the flavors – we asked our people to answer this brief: Provide a recipe that sparked your curiosity.
The design:
Questionable Taste was built on a rudimentary design system. 1) Create a simple grid and use it for everything. 2) Develop a type system that is not overly complex. Our goal was to make it fun and expressive yet neat and tidy.
Photography played a huge role in this book. It was important that it felt authentic to the culture of Curiosity and candidly showed our people in their own space. This meant sending disposable cameras to our entire staff so they could capture their dishes on actual film.
The results: For the first time, we scored the top spot on Adweek's agency holiday card round-up (https://www.adweek.com/agencies/agencies-flex-their-creativity-with-2024-holiday-cards/) Plus, we got a slew of positive feedback from our clients, consultants, and prospects – leading to fresh conversations to start the new year.
