In honor of the summer games, Long Drink challenged runners to log 26.2 miles before the games are over for a chance to win $52,000. The Long Drink has a rich history dating back to the summer games of 1952 where it was first created to refresh the fans cheering on their country’s athletes. This year, to celebrate the summer games, we hosted our own summer game in a quest to refresh fans and athletes alike all across America. So, we partnered with Strava to create a summer challenge for people to run an Olympic distance for a chance to win a share of an Olympus-sized prize of $52,000.
To enter, runners will have to complete a marathon distance of 26.2 miles within the 2 weeks that the summer games air. Each runner will get a custom Strava Legend of 52 badge, and be entered to win a Grand Prize of $26,000. We’ll also award 26 runner-ups a second place prize of $1,000 each!
Long Drink was inspired by the Finnish commissioned beverage for the 1952 Summer Games. The brief was to lean into the Olympic heritage as it is an integral part of the brand provenance and leverage it during this year's summer games.
Challenges:
We had about 3 weeks from briefing to come up with and shoot the concept before the Olympic games began on July 26.
