Unbound is a name and packaging system that is impossible to ignore and introduces consumers to a new category of snacking nut. The idea, leverage the unique and somewhat strange shape and texture of the walnut that is smart, fun, distinct, ownable and memorable in a bright, quirky pouch that grabs attention and gets consumers to reconsider what they though they knew about walnuts.


Challenges: Walnuts are regarded by consumers as an ingredient in foods not a snack in of themselves.

Objectives: Entice consumers to look at walnuts in a different light, get them to give them a try as a snack, and fall in love with the product and the brand.


By creating a packaging design system that disrupts at shelf we grabbed consumers attention and got them to consider giving walnuts a try as a snack. Once they tried them and found out how different and delicious they were, we made it easy for consumers to find Unbound again because their pack is unique and very memorable.

Results: Greater brand awareness, increased sales, and an ever-expanding distribution area.
