Community Cycling Center ABC Video PSA

Ideas Collide

Ideas Collide collaborated with the Community Cycling Center to produce a compelling three-minute documentary-style video showcasing the transformative impact the Andando en Bicicletas y Caminando (ABC) program has provided to Portland's underserved Cully neighborhood. The main objective was to uncover the disparities within the biking community while also highlighting ABC’s grassroots efforts to promote inclusivity and empowerment in pedestrian and cycling safety.

For the population served by the Community Cycling Center’s ABC program, walking and biking are essential for commuting and accessing services. However, areas like Cully often lack resources, hindering community development. Ideas Collide aimed to help address these inequalities by producing a video amplifying ABC members’ voices and experiences and highlighting their grassroots efforts. Objectives included advocating for inclusive walking and biking infrastructure and engaging donors by showcasing ABC's transformative work.

Ideas Collide interviewed ABC members in Spanish, their native language, and captured diverse locations in Portland, highlighting biking and walking infrastructure realities. Authentic storytelling depicted ABC members’ challenges and triumphs in a three-minute documentary-style video with English subtitles. Premiering in June 2023 on social media and at a Community Cycling Center fundraising event, it sparked meaningful conversations among potential donors. The video is also featured on the ABC program’s webpage, serving as a powerful PSA for transportation equity in Portland.

Unlike more affluent Portland, OR, neighborhoods where biking infrastructure is well supported, areas like the Cully neighborhood lack resources, hindering the development of thriving communities. This disparity limits access to safe biking and pedestrian routes and fosters feelings of exclusion and isolation among community members.
