Stand Proud Downtown

information

Copacino Fujikado

Copacino Fujikado has been located in the heart of downtown Seattle for its entirety. As downtown residents, we’ve seen so many of our favorite small businesses depart before our very eyes—from restaurants to dive bars to our favorite dry cleaner. As a fellow independent small business, we wanted to help our city. And because we knew the right people, we gave the Downtown Seattle Association a call and offered our services with both a big idea and a large financial commitment. And thus, the “Stand Proud Downtown” campaign was born.

Without the usual pre-pandemic influx of downtown workers, it was a tough time for small businesses in downtown Seattle. Surviving the pandemic was hard enough. Now, with life back to "normal," business wasn't getting any better. Independent businesses needed some help. Some amplification. Some love. They needed a rallying cry that could combat all the bad press and lack of energy. They needed a shot of adrenaline that could change the conversation and get more people excited about being downtown again.

We created a huge rallying cry called “Stand Proud Downtown” focused on the promotion and amplification of local businesses through signage, social media, a microsite, and two prizes of $25,000 in free advertising services to help promote a thriving downtown Seattle for the long-term. $0 spent in paid media led to nearly 5 million impressions. We also garnered a 97% net positive sentiment across social media channels. In a climate where negativity surrounded our downtown area, we successfully steered the conversation in the other direction.

Downtown Seattle has been subject to an inordinate amount of doom-filled headlines across the country. It has garnered a reputation for being an unsafe, lawless, and depressing place. Much of the bad press that has plagued downtown Seattle is completely, or at least partially, unfounded.
